One of the side effects of using kratom is constipation, having the infrequent passage of stools or experiencing difficult bowel movements. It can be painful and frustrating. How can you avoid this serious issue?
First, let’s understand that constipation, defined as difficult bowel movements, going 3 days without a bowel movement, or bowel emptying that occurs only 3 times a week, is not something you can just live with.
Lumpy or hard stools that cause you to strain mightily to empty out of your system is not a minor thing.
You can develop swollen veins in your anus, which are commonly called hemorrhoids. You could also end up with anal fissures (torn tissue), fecal impactions (hardened stool gets stuck in your intestines), or rectal prolapse caused by straining to move your bowels (small amount of rectum stretches and pokes out from the anus).
Now, some individuals have issues already, before they started taking kratom, which hinders their ability to have normal, regular bowel movements.
Diabetes, pregnancy, hyperthyroidism, hyperparathyroidism, chronic anxiety, a sedentary lifestyle, lack of physical activity, anismus (inability to relax the pelvic muscles), weakened pelvic muscles, and dyssynergia (when pelvic muscles fail to coordinate the cycle of contraction and relaxation necessary for bowel emptying) can cause constipation.
Also, some folks have problems with the nerves around their rectum and colon, including rectal blockage, autonomic neuropathy, and colon cancer, which can cause disruptions of proper bowel emptying. Other medical issues that can cause constipation are bowel stricture, rectocele, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injury, Crohn’s disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and stroke.
Then there are medicines that can cause or contribute to the condition of constipation. These include opioids, anti-depressants, and blood pressure medications.
You really don’t want to mess up your ability to pass stool. Bowel movements are vital to our very life and must not be impeded or thwarted. We must be very careful to maintain regularity here. Not passing stool means you are self-toxifying or poisoning yourself. Constipation should not be ignored or allowed to persist.
Don’t rely on laxatives or excessive amounts of coffee in an attempt to solve this problem. Better solutions exist.
Do NOT try things like pressing on your abdomen to force the stool out, or digging the stool out with your fingers. What you need to do is eliminate the cause of your failure to have regular, soft, smooth bowel movements. You need to get back on a normal bowel movement schedule.
There are several things you can do to avoid kratom constipation.
- Drink plenty of water and other fluids. Aloe, Apple juice, prune juice, and grape juice often help a lot. An abundance of liquids will keep stools soft and moving through your system.
- Get lots of exercises. Sitting around watching TV, reading books, or playing video games is not conducive to good health and is especially bad for bowel movement regularity. Move around, go for a walk, do some gardening, clean the basement, rearrange your bookshelves, go to the gym, do some workouts, lift weights.
- Don’t take too much kratom or dose too often. Kratom is very dry. It’s dehydrating. So by taking an unnecessarily large amount of kratom during the day, the kratom powder is sucking all the moisture out of your body, in an alarming manner.
- Don’t go overboard with kratom extracts or resin “candy”. Sometimes it’s easy to take too much of a more concentrated, stronger form of kratom, especially when it tastes better than the bitter kratom powder.
- Eat foods rich in fiber – such as beans, vegetables, fruits, whole grain cereals, and bran.
- Eat less food that is processed, which means that fiber and nutrients have been removed, and replaced by artificial flavorings to improve taste and trick you into consuming more of the de-natured cuisine.
- Supplements can and should be added, such as Magnesium
- Learn methods of self-calming and stress-reduction. The more relaxed and happy you are in general, the less likely you’ll be afflicted with chronic constipation.
- Don’t let a bowel movement opportunity pass by unused. When you feel an urge to pass stool, go for it. Don’t postpone the action. Get to the bathroom and get the job done.
Hopefully, with this advice, you’ll be able to overcome the dreaded kratom constipation. Just be sure to take it seriously and practice these methods.
